PIDE in Pinhal Novo, book by José Cabrita

In this work focussing on the actions of PIDE, José Cabrita explores the document archives of this political police agency, giving a voice to many witnesses who passed through the prisons in Tarrafal or Peniche, as well as to their family members and friends. The book is a tribute to Pinhal Novo’s political prisoners, victims of the fascist dictatorship’s torment over a period of 48 years. It intends to carry on the study and dissemination of the commitment and self-denial of those who fought and suffered in the name of social and political rights, justice and improved living standards.

José António Cabrita studied and taught Sociology and has dedicated himself to research a wide range of themes, such as cultura caramela and the historiography of Pinhal Novo.
