Cláudia Gaiolas continues the Antiprincesas series of shows, which emerged from the collection of children’s books published by Tinta-da-china and EGEAC. This time, the heroines are Portuguese women who made history. They are the protagonists, narrators of their own adventures and inventors of games and fun.
CAROLINA BEATRIZ ÂNGELO
by Cláudia Gaiolas
This Summer, we’re inviting the littlest ones to get to know the Anti-Princess Beatriz Ângelo, in a recreation of the life of this feminist doctor who was the first woman to vote in Portugal in 1911, a year after the establishment of the Republic. The law extended the vote only to those over 21 years of age, who knew how to read and write and who were heads of their family. The fact that Beatriz Ângelo was a widow and provided for her daughter allowed her to invoke the right to be considered the “head of the family”.
