with Rita Maria

Big Band Júnior is a jazz orchestra-school consisting of around 20 musicians aged between 12 and 17. It was founded in 2010, based on an original idea belonging to Alexandra Ávila Trindade and João Godinho and took form through a partnership between the Centro Cultural de Belém and Hot Clube de Portugal. BBJ aims to develop a taste for jazz amongst younger people, providing training to their students as musicians in a jazz orchestra and giving them the opportunity to gain some experience of what a professional musician’s life is actually like. Playing alongside renowned musicians is undoubtedly one of the most enriching experiences for these youngsters. On this occasion, Big Band Júnior has the enormous privilege of sharing the stage with singer Rita Maria, in a set largely consisting of compositions by Portuguese musicians. This concert will also include several high-energy, instrumental pieces such as “Birdland” by Joe Zawinul and Bernardo Sassetti’s “Mali m’Bule Baaba”.
