This year, Sou do Fado is leaving the squares and taking the music of Lisbon to some of the city’s most beautiful gardens and parks. Four fadistas of differing styles will be performing their latest work, accompanied by virtuoso musicians at these open-air concerts.

The word fado is known to come from the Latin term “fatum”, meaning destiny. Destiny as luck, future, fatality, fortune, fate. But also as a course or direction, path or creation, desire or utopia. A destiny that can be written in lines drawn by hands or in the stars, but which can also be invented and reinvented at any moment and by any of us, agents of (our own) destiny. Helder Moutinho is a fadista whose destiny was fado, but who has also often written what destiny he wants in his fado. At his show “Escrito no Destino”, he sings of love and longing, of the past and the future, life and musical, poetic, metaphorical, temporal and geographical journeys. The stories of which his destiny to sing fado have been made, remade and unmade.
