“A Música de António Pinho Vargas”
Since 2011, Orquestra de Jazz do Hot Clube de Portugal (OJHCP) has been involved in a project based on the new music of Portuguese composers. Three years ago, OJHCP was challenged, along with the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, to interpret the work of António Pinho Vargas, an essential name in contemporary Portuguese music. The result was new arrangements of his pieces by OJHCP musicians. These were first played live in 2015, at the São Luiz Teatro Municipal.
The project became so important to the progress of the band that they decided to put it on CD. Released in 2016, the album “A Dança do Pássaros” (name of one of Pinho Vargas’ most famous tracks) would contribute to the recognition of the composer’s work as a fundamental part of Portuguese musical culture. This will be the work that the orchestra will play in this concert.
