The Fifth ElementCinema
Luc Besson, 1997
New York, 23rd Century. Every 5,000 years, the four natural elements are joined by a fifth element to fight the Forces of Evil.
Land, Air, Water and Fire together are the engine of the universe, but an unknown 5th element also exists. An evil force, supported by Zorg (Gary Oldman), is keen to break this union. A taxi-driver and ex-New York special forces agent, Korben Dallas (played by Bruce Willis) finds himself with the mission of protecting the Fifth Element from the dangers surrounding it, until it is united with the other four.
Based on the work of French comic writers Jean Giraud and Jean-Claude Mézières, who also produced the film, it deals with the classic conflict between good and evil to save humankind, but with a touch of style: the futuristic costumes were designed by French fashion designer Jean Paul Gautier and the leading actress is supermodel Milla Jovovich.
