With a “commitment to fairness towards composers and repertoires”, Martim Sousa Tavares’ activity has brought him a wide range of experiences, in search of audiences for classical music which lie away from the usual stages and proposing surprising combinations of composers. On his debut conducting the Gulbenkian Orchestra, his programme will feature Rissolty, Rossolty by composer Ruth Crawford Seeger, exemplary in its approach to the roots of North American popular music, and pieces by Mozart, Hummel, Debussy, Sarasate and Popper, in a musical journey spanning almost three centuries.
