The procession of Saint Anthony has taken place on the 13th June since the 18thcentury and is one of the cornerstones of the city’s festas calendar. It’s a genuine display of the faith and devotion that the Lisbon population has for its saint. Nowadays the procession makes its way through the historic neighbourhood of Alfama, with the saints of the churches it passes joining it along the way.

At this exhibition, the Museu de Lisboa – Santo António will be presenting a depiction of the cortege of the current procession of Saint Anthony, using more than 300 pieces made by the Baraça brothers (a well-known family associated with the Barcelos cockerel figurines), thereby lending colour and form to the authentic concept of “neighbourhoodliness” that makes Lisbon so unique and special.
