In the evening of the first day of the month, cast your eyes up to the sky and witness a breathtaking adventure: Tatiana-Mosio Bongonga will be defying gravity and performing an aerial crossing of the Fonte Luminosa on Alameda D. Afonso Henriques.

Balancing on a rope 33 metres up, this French artist who fell in love with the vertigo of the tightrope as a child is one of the world’s few women performing at this height. At over 300 metres long, it’s an impressive feat, which is only possible thanks to the support of 80 helpers, who make sure the rope remains stable. Great achievements are never the work of just one person and this show is a tribute to togetherness and the importance of the group in overcoming obstacles. For some, conjuring up the courage to throw themselves into the unknown depends upon their belief that there’s someone, somewhere, who won’t let them fall.

All journeys deserve a soundtrack and this one will have a very special one, played live by members of the company and 20 musicians from the Banda da Armada.

“Linhas Voadoras” is performed by the Basinga Circus Company (co-founded, in 2014, by Tatiana-Mosio Bongonga), whose name means “rope” or “connection” in an African language and is a nod to the artist’s roots. By teaching, sharing and producing participative aerial shows, the company seeks to perpetuate the art of tightrope walking. It’s an art which, more than any other, reveals how our greatness is based on our weaknesses and our ability to overcome them. Put simply, finding balance. And discovering new points of view.

Eyes (and hearts) aloft to enjoy a unique moment that promises to evoke strong emotions.
