With eyes set on the Atlantic, from the Castle of São Jorge
It was with eyes set on the Atlantic, from the Castle of São Jorge that we started with the 2021 edition of the Lisboa na Rua program. And we couldn't have started in the best way:
In the first of five concerts of the cycle A Música eo Mundo - Encontros Sonoros Atlânticos, we heard Águas da Amazônia (1993-99), a tribute by Philip Glass to the rivers of the Pulmão do Mundo; American Settings, a song cycle for Vasco Mendonça's countertenor and percussion quartet inspired by the poetry of Tracy K. Smith and Terrance Hayes; and Trovas in Continuum by Ângela da Ponte, a piece for voice and percussion inspired by the vocal work of Francisco de Lacerda. The interpretation was in charge of Drumming - Grupo de Percussion and the countertenor Stephen Diaz.
