Lisbon’s downtown once again welcomes the “Plastic Artists – Shops with History” project. Ten new artists and ten new shops make up the Spring-Summer Collection 2022, decorating the window displays of Lisbon’s traditional and historic shops with contemporary art.
Lisbon’s downtown once again welcomes the “Plastic Artists – Shops with History” project. Ten new artists and ten new shops make up the Spring-Summer Collection 2022, decorating the window displays of Lisbon’s traditional and historic shops with contemporary art.
Launched in 2021 and developed by EGEAC in partnership with Lisbon City Council’s “Shops with History” project, this initiative set out to revive the city following the pandemic and draw attention to the city’s heritage and past as well as promoting local commerce and artistic activity.
The artists’ and shopkeepers’ receptiveness and appreciation made last year’s initiative a real success, with the Summer-Spring collection running from April to May and the Autumn-Summer collection running from October to December. As a result, this once-experimental project will now become a regular feature on EGEAC’s public space programme.
Between 20 April and 20 May, we invite you to discover unexpected installations in the window displays of some of the city’s most iconic shops. Pieces by different artists (such as an installation-design, an image stitched with threads and a work of embroidery) have been harmoniously thought out to match the window displays of various emblematic shops, including an optician’s, a pharmacy, a haberdasher’s and a bar.
