TEN YEARS CREATING SARDINES
Ten years and 50 thousand sardines later, it’s time to put on your creative hat for the Festas de Lisboa’21 Sardine Contest
And to mark a decade of healthy competition, we’ll be celebrating how the participative side of things has made this EGEAC-organised contest famous not only in Lisbon, but across the country and a little bit all around the world.
This year there’ll be no honourable mentions; the sardines chosen by the jury will all be winners and will be celebrated under the slogan: 10 years, 10 sardines. The winners will each be awarded a €1,000 prize.
Since the first edition in 2011, we’ve received a total of 49,034 sardines, along with lots of Saints and fishbones, as well as a few crows, cats and even masks. There have been digital and three-dimensional entries featuring political and historical themes, or simply drawings or abstract pieces, by renowned artists and amateur virtuosos from Lisbon and across the world.
We need just 966 more sardines to reach 50 thousand, but we want to go even further on this anniversary. Year after year, we’ve seen that when it comes to creativity, the imagination really is fertile ground and so the desired equation is simple: 10 years, 10 sardines = 10 thousand competition entries.
You can create your sardines individually or jointly, with up to three sardine designs allowed per application. Design entries must be submitted by 18.00 on 24 May and originality really is the most important requirement.
The winners will be announced by 8 June.
